Access Consultancy

This is a service that can take many forms as it is horses of courses. It may be that a building is to undergo some alterations and advice around access is required, it could be about furnishings or colour schemes, policy and how it may impact.

Access consultancy is generally anything to do with access that does not fit in to design appraisal, access statements, access audits or training, or is a combination of all of the above.

An access consultant provides advice on how the requirements of people with disabilities can be incorporated into the design and management of the built environment, ensuring that the facilities and services provided in buildings are accessible to people with disabilities and non-disabled people alike.

This can happen with:

• New builds where an access statement is generated, followed by support throughout the construction process through to completion, with the aim of giving ongoing advice at all key stages.
• A development project that encounters issues relating to access and advice is required
• Any building that may have faced accessibility issues to due factors such as customer complaints
