Access Statements
Design and Access Statements are now a common requirement of the planning process and Building Regulations stages of a project. Their complexity will depend on the size of the development.
The aim of the Access Statement is to explain about the design principles around access and argue the case for design features that are an alternative to the conventional guidance that can be found in Part M of the Building Regulations Approved Document or from other recognised sources.
A good Access Statement will start at the concept stage and work its way through the development and stay with the building for it s lifetime. This is a living document that changes with the building and should be handed over with documents relating to the say heating and ventilation system.
