The Equality Act

Bespoke accessibility training courses

About Access provides training in different ways, from an informal meeting with members of a trade association or professional body, to specific issues around disability or the built environment. It might be delivered to a range of businesses off-site, generating valuable interaction and enabling them to learn from each other’s experience, or it might be in-house, direct to clients at their own premises.

We offer audit training, disability awareness training, user needs, disability provisions within the Equality Act. It can be prompted by fresh guidance on disability issues, new premises, changed layout of premises, new staff. It is relevant to staff at all levels from senior management to shop-floor and customer-facing staff.

The Equality Act is examined in some detail as part of this website but our dedicated course will give you greater insight into what the legislation demands. We don’t do chapter and verse but we do make sure we cover the provisions of the Act that are relevant to you.

The Equality Act was introduced to provide protection throughout society against many forms of discrimination. At About Access we only deal with the Act from the point of view of disability. It will look at the terms of the Act, which people are defined as disabled, what sort of preventative and remedial measures are considered reasonable, what the various duties are for staff and visitors and what the impact is on local authorities and businesses. The duration of the course is flexible.

Testimonials

Very in-depth course with good resources to allow you to carry out an Access Audit.

The online training has been the best I have seen and participated in as the content was of the highest quality for us all as users – a real portal of information and unlike face-to-face training we could go over areas of the training repeatedly as to create fuller understanding. The opportunities to access the facilitator were of a high professional standard, with online opportunities to question as you train and regular Zoom meetings. This was so helpful. This training is certainly accessible in these new challenging times and is highly recommended.

As an architect I started the course pretty familiar with accessible design requirements. However, with Ian’s teaching I have gained a greater understanding of the disabilities and impairments we must design for and the belief that truly inclusive design goes beyond the legislative requirements.

I thought the course was great. Really opened my eyes to the potential obstacles and issues that could arise. The content was delivered in a very straightforward and understandable manner.

…having first reviewed your website which was clear and comprehensive I made contact. Your response time was swift and a competitive tender was received.

I found your survey to be beyond my expectations, absolutely superb in terms of detail and quality of presentation.
